Just on time to make this trip a perfect one, the sky started flashing during dinner last night in Alta.

This morning, we did a scooter safari through a desert of snow up above Alta. Jumping around in our snowsuites we actually felt as if we had landed on the moon.

After seeing the Northcape and fighting heavy wind and swell on Hurtigruten, we landed in Honningsvåg, a small Norwegian settlement at the Northern end of Europe. Afterwards, we had a long drive (and stand) in a convoy going to Alta due to a massive storm. Glad we all survived it. An >>arctic flashmob<< and loads of aquavit did their best to help.

The weather was so tough today that the Norwegians closed the road to the Northcape. Our captain on Hurtigruten made up for that by taking us on an extra loop passing the Cape onboard. Maybe that was even better?!

I'm still not exactly sure what to think about this experience, as I'm not sure if these dogs could possibly be happy... but they were lovely and pulled us all the way.

Today we caught an early plane from Ålesund via Oslo to Tromsø...

Sleeping on an old postship from the 1960's sounds very exciting. And it is, expecially the tiny cabin where everything that might squeaks and rattles to keep you awake. Hurtigruten (="quick route") is great to watch beautiful lighthouses passing by, to see funny people doing funny things, to play hide and seek, to daydream and to get some serious seasickness. I loved it, and even more I loved the old, beautiful, and sagacious captain I met up on the bridge. Still in love, truly.

After spending a rather shaky night on Hurtigruten, today might have been the best day in photographic matters for me so far. At noon, we arrived in the beautiful town of Ålesund, in the middle between sea, mountains and fjords build in lovely art nouveau.

In the afternoon, we went fishing with three skippers and one old mighty fisherman. He sang melancholic Norwegian songs for me and helped me cheat on our fishing competition. We all lost, anyway, as all the fish was already on board when we started. (Enjoy the 2nd part, as the 1st will be posted tomorrow.)

For the first time ever in my life I went skiing today and did not break a leg. It actually feels as if I was born on skis but never noticed. Thanks to our lovely ski teachers! Can't get rid of that smile on my face anymore. It even makes me forget the camera hit my face quite hard once and gave me a nice little blue eye.

We're spending the night on Hurtigruten, the old lovely postship taking us through the fjords and the sea to Ålesund over night.

We went west from Norefjell through frozen trees heading to Voss, first by a fabulous bus driver, then by a fabulous ferry. I got blown away by frozen waterfalls on the cliffs of the fjords, though I already got used to them as I have probably seen tenthousands of them by now... I have got to come back in the summer to see them flowing.

Today we went cross country skiing, which really exhausted me. What waited for us afterwards made up for all the work-out. Wow!

After arriving in Oslo we only had a short break with fabulous waffles and coffee before we left for the Snowboard World Championship Trials in Oslo's snowy outskirts. I'm not very interested in watching sports at all, but the spectator's crowd really got me with their fabulous fashion.

We only had a few hours of daylight in Oslo, but I still really enjoyed.

The bus took us to the trainstation, where we took an early train leaving Lillehammer back to Oslo.

After spending the night at the airport we took an early train to Lillehammer, the host of the 1994 Winter Olympics.

We went sleeding on funny yellow sleds that caught up some crazy speed and then went bob sliding on the Olympic track. 100km/h! Yay......! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh.
